This brush roller has a place for the belt to freely ride on and not turn the whole brush. They call this system a clutch. This roller has the brush strips that are in red plastic. Usually the bottom plate has a metal bottom to it but not always. This brush roller uses the longer gold bristles 10.3 mm  in red plastic because it reaches the carpet better. If your current roller has the black strips, this is the roller you need,  as they do not make the black strip version anymore.
